Batteries
A Battery is a electrochemical device which converts chemical energy into electrical energy. Generally, batteries are unidirectional flow of electrons it means they are dc in nature, the direct current is not vary with time hence they are easily storage and used at any time ,but coming to alternating current it is time variant so unable to store and doesn`t use for long time. Hence the supply from the generating stations are directly send to the transmission lines.
Here a question arises that which type of electricity may get shock, the current which is invariant with the time gets more shock compared to the time variant current i.e. dc gets more shock than ac, because dc does not varies with time hence the movement of current is constant and unidirectional position.
Ok, let`s come to batteries, in our household appliances battery plays a major role, we use battery in invertors, mobiles, laptops and other gadgets.
* Battery is invented by “George Liond Leclanche “ in the year of 1866. He made the several experiments on battery and invented a storage device which is useful for a mankind. In previous classes we learn about galvanic cells which converts chemical energy into electrical energy, the below figure shows a complete view about the energy conversion and the reactions.
1. primary batteries
2. secondary batteries
>> Secondary batteries are the batteries which are used for longer period, these batteries are rechargeable hence charging and discharging periods takes place. The below slide gives a concept about the types of primary & secondary batteries.
* The below are the some of the classifications of cell:
* Among the primary batteries and secondary batteries, secondary batteries are very efficient because it can make charge after discharging the power.
* Based on the power requirements and the costs batteries are divided as shown on the above slide so we need to know their applications where they are used, to understand easily the below slide helps you, make it remember in your mind.
